Where this tool comes from ?
A collective work !
This tool is the result of over three years of work between the Salomon brand, a partner of numerous sporting events, and the transition consulting agency AIR coop, who have collaboratively created a unique tool and methodology for the environmental and social assessment of events.
This comprehensive tool includes over 200 questions across 11 pillars, and the methodology allows us to support each event organizer in an in-depth reflection process to reduce their impacts. If you would like to learn more about this comprehensive tool and method, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Building on this experience, and thanks to collaborations with events such as the Ultra Spirit, the Mont Blanc Marathon, and the Grand Trail de Serre Ponçon, Salomon and AIR coop have decided to offer a simplified version of the tool to all event organizers, completely free of charge, by partnering with the Protect Our Winters association, which is then expanding its distribution to the outdoor sports sector to support its work on mobility.
WHAT THEY THINK ABOUT IT ?
“The Mont Blanc Marathon makes every effort to preserve the environment in which the races take place in the Chamonix Valley. To this end, numerous environmental initiatives have been implemented before, during, and after the event for years. However, in order to clearly identify the areas in which we must continue our efforts, it was essential to conduct an environmental impact analysis. Thanks to Salomon’s support and the work of the AIR coop agency, we were able to benefit from impact measurement tools and conduct this analysis, which allowed us to identify the priority areas in which we should continue our efforts.”
Magalie Chevalier – Major Events Manager, Chamonix Mont Blanc (Mont Blanc Marathon)
“We wanted the Ultra Spirit event to be part of the local area and as responsible as possible. The study allowed us to measure our environmental and social impact and target the areas where we were performing the least, so we could implement areas for improvement for future editions.”
Carline D’Haene – Co-organizer of Ultra Spirit
“A powerful tool for comprehensively analyzing your event and implementing concrete actions to reduce its environmental and social impact.”
François D’haene – Ultra trail runner and co-organizer of Ultra Spirit
WHO IS POW ?
Protect Our Winters is an international NGO, founded in the United States in 2007 by snowboarder Jeremy Jones. POW France is one of 16 branches currently operating worldwide. Our purpose: To bring together outdoor sports enthusiasts and mountain enthusiasts and use our shared passion as a gateway to a strong commitment to climate.
We are a community of enthusiasts, professional athletes, brands, scientists, and communities who want to take positive action and inspire systemic and cultural change that will enable us to protect the world of today and tomorrow. We want the motivation that drives our adventures to serve a low-carbon and just society.
The two main causes we dedicate our time and energy to are:
- Giving the outdoor community a voice in favor of climate change
- Supporting and encouraging a shift toward 100% low-carbon and fair mobility
Working to highlight My Event Impact works in this direction, especially in a country where mobility is systematically the first area of improvement for events.
